Plant City pet store closing after 5 years in business

Dear Plant City

Dear Fellow Friends, Pet lovers, and Family:

It has been a great pleasure and joy to be part of the Plant City Community. I would personally like to thank all of you for being a part of my life over the past 5 years. It is a sad day to close the Pet Store that all of you love and enjoy. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to experience the joy of meeting you and serving your pet needs. Many people have told me to go out and live my dream. That dream started with you. Now, with your blessing, I am taking this opportunity to expand my education and get my Master Degree in business.

I will be closing the shop by June 29th. Please don’t worry. I will be offering other services that may help keep our loving working relationship. I will continue to have an online store, operate trade conventions, do personal consulting and have wholesale to the public. Please feel free to shop at our store until we close, we are offering deep discounts and everything must go.  The Store’s phone number will still be active.

Fancypet Petstore was a success. There were so many great memories, routines and friendships. My business grew along with your families. We shared the joys and sorrows of our lives. If my school time allows I hope to continue being able to share my knowledge of pet needs and business experience, in the class rooms with the children and parents for it is a great joy, along with donating my time and product to South Florida Baptist Hospital and other fund raisers for the community. It’s with my heartfelt gratitude that I write my thanks to all of you.

Sincerely,

Stephen Tippie & Sylvester

Owner of Fancypet Petstore

  Make Your Pet a Fancypet
Story and Photos by Sherry Baldwin

Fancypet Petstore owner and local resident, Stephen Tippie, recently shared how in 2003, at the young age of 17, he began his thriving pet business. Tippie further shared that while building his business he graduated from Middleton High School's Aerospace Engineering and Technology Program, became an Eagle Scout through Local Boy Scout Troop 14 and is now in college.  While he initially set up shop at a local outlet mall, Tippie soon made the decision to move to a storefront on Alexander Street in Plant
City - a decision he has not regretted.  According to Tippie, the move allowed him to triple his original inventory.  As one of the areas's few "licensed sellers of small exotic animals," Fancypet Petstore also has one of the largest and most complete selections of pets and supplies in the area as well. Exotic Birds, Reptiles, Small Animals, Exotic Rodents and Tropical Fish are all on display for sale.  Special orders are also available as well.

Uniquely special about Fancypet Petstore is the fact that many of the smaller animals are bred and raised on the Tippie family's own farm right here in Plant City. Normal, Fancy and Dwarf  Hamsters, Gerbils, Fancy Mice, Rats, Guinea Pigs, Reptiles, Feeders, Small Exotics and Birds are just some of the animals on their farm. Tippie also shared that he hand picks the fish and animals that his family does not raise. He sees this as a great benefit because he knows the health and quality of the animal. It also provides him the opportunity to gather information directly from the breeder as it relates to the care of the animals.

In addition, Fancypet Petstore carries a wide selection of toys and treats for your pet.  Well-balanced foods as well as supplies such as aquariums, cages and accessories can also be found at this well-respected pet store.  Fancypet further recognizes that purchasing a pet is adding a member to the customer’s family.  Therefore, professional counseling on the care of your pet is always available as well. Tippie stated that he pushes "knowledge not sales" to assist his valued customers.  In fact, what he doesn't know he will "gladly research." Fancypet also carries a number of pet instructional books and offers customers the opportunity to network. Drop by and check out the community bulletin board located in the store.

The highly motivated staff  at Fancypet Petstore works hard at creating family friendly environment in which to shop. They also strive to provide only the best service to you and your pets.  "It is our duty to help you in every need pertaining to your pets," shared Tippie. "We promise to supply you with all the information needed when purchasing a new pet, and we will suggest the best nutritional diet for the new addition to your family."  "With our own formulated food, your pet will have the healthiest diet and greatest life span."  Tippie also added that Fancypet will provide "top-notch Pets and Pet Supplies, great customer support and prices that's can't be beat!" Through their commitment, experience and expertise, Fancypet Petstore has established a business relationship with customers that will last a lifetime. They welcome you to join the Fancypet Family!

To meet the needs of their growing list of customers, keep watching as Fancypet expands to include over 60 variety of fresh water fish, 30 variety of salt water fish as well as a larger selection of quality lines of pet foods and supplies.

Fancypet Petstore is located at 1514 South Alexander Street, Suite 108 in Plant City.  Store hours Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday - 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Telephone 813-719-1129.  You may also visit them on the web at: www.fancypet-petstore.com.

Student's Love For Pets Pays Off

Student's Love For Pets Pays Off
By ROBIN CUTTING

Tribune correspondent

PLANT CITY - The love of animals turned into a money- making venture for a high school senior who operates his own pet store.
Stephen Tippie's Fancypet Petstore evolved from a booth he operated at a Plant City outlet mall that since has closed.
``It was very slow at the beginning,'' said Tippie, who was set up in the business at the outlet mall by his parents as a gift in December 2003. ``I was able to cover the rent,'' he said.
When business wasn't picking up as anticipated, Tippie said he thought, ``I had better do something before my business'' goes under.
That's when his pet store was born. Tippie, an 18-year- old Middleton High School student, opened the store in a Plant City shopping plaza last August with money he borrowed from his parents, Susin and Butch Tippie.
``We are very, very proud of him,'' said Susin Tippie, who, along with her husband, owns D&H Pet Farms Inc. in Plant City. ``His business sense is outstanding.''
``He is real customer-oriented,'' she said. ``If a customer comes in and he doesn't have what they need, Stephen will see if he can order it.''
``He's there for the customers and the customers' pets.''
The store, at 1514 S. Alexander St., Suite 108, carries reptiles, birds, fish and other pets and pet supplies.
Tippie, an Eagle Scout who has lived in Plant City since he was 11, has attended animal trade shows for years with his mother. That's what sparked his interest in owning his own pet shop.
``I gained the love for animals from my mom,'' he said.
Sandy Brewer, who has worked for Stephen Tippie since March 2004, said she has been impressed with his knowledge of pets.
``I went in knowing the basic care,'' she said, ``and he is still teaching me things I didn't know. He's very knowledgeable. He trains me in the proper care of the animals.''
Tippie plans to study aeronautical engineering at the University of Central Florida after he graduates from high school. He plans to keep the store as a ``life hobby and side business'' after he gets his degree and starts pursuing a career.
``Petstore is where my heart is. The Petstore will be like my retirement.''
